BOOK REVIEW ( Twitter And Tear Gas)

In this chapter book I read things that were interesting to me being the fact that the author described how technology was back in the 1900’s in Turkey. Being a witness of communication being centralized, lead to becoming part of helping people have a better way of communicating with others around the world. Becoming a programmer for IBM’s internal global she was able to get in contact with people such as her collogues/friends. Turkey was then introduced to the internet in the mid 1900’s, in wanting others to find a way to have these kinds of communication, in having the power to finally speak to others digitally. Using all sorts of social media outputs to send messages and talk to people constantly, being able to stay in touch through Facebook, Twitter, and What’s App. People would start using social media online sorts to gain the power to start a massive protest, while this protest is occurring you will see the use of tear gas looking like the streets were covered in clouds. This story leans towards the use of technology, culture, and politics. People would use birds to send a signal or messages, this was their normal way of communicating to others before the internet use was introduced to them. Of course having to send messages through pigeons was definitely the hardest form of communicating. Bringing in all kinds of movements not only technology, for example bringing tea party to the United States. I always wanted to know how United States came upon a movement such as a tea party. Being a participate in other social movements over the years but mainly digital technologies. Internet and digital tools began to spread drastically to activists and the general population. With living in turkey and the United States for most of their life, helped both turkey and US with technology for one and the other the tea party movement and plenty more. Being part of this organization, also was able to access things that were big, some in which was publicly and some that was just directed to the individual, which led to studying these absents of communication and technology. Being a computer programmer and a social science scholar, allowed to have access in data bases and other dimensions. With the use of introducing this digital internet use of technology, a terrorist group such as ISIS and white supremacist used this to manage their organization. Many Arab became bloggers with keeping in touch with others with being in prison. They would have their own codes such as “Tweeting” or “offline” just before powering off the phones so others wont worry about being kidnapped or killed. I think the only bad thing about introducing the use of internet is the fact that terrorist and hateful people use this output to form attacks and organize them, especially with sending out messages to others for example while being in prison, I hate that they are able to use such powerful digital communication for their hateful crimes.

I think I did good on this assignment more so because I really took interest in reading this book and understanding the source of these different movements the author described. I believe I should grade myself 18 to 20 points, I discussed the most interesting points I thought was important to share with others. Some people do not have any idea how turkey was introduced to having internet connections and how United States was also helped with the introduction of tea parties. I recommend for others to take time in their busy lives and read this amazing book, I wont be the only person to take some interest in this story. A lot of things were mentioned in regards to tear gas and technology that most of us are clueless about. The author best described all sorts of examples and important factors in every chapter of this book I was not bored reading this, in fact I loved it you would too.

Approaching the end of the semester

Wow guys we made it passes the first semester in college during this crazy pandemic, I hope everyone is remaining safe. I applaud everyone college is not easy especially having to this this fully remotely, we did it guys, be proud of yourself for successfully succeeding this first step. I love blogging this was by far the best assignment I had, not only does it give me my voice to talk about whatever I like, but it also lets me submit my assignments in a much easier way. I wish I was able to retake this course to keep the professor I have for American Gov. and Politics. Hopefully things change within time and we can all have our classes in the building, so we can finally meet the faces to these voices. I’m sure we all would like to return to campus, However, I wont be returning to Kingsborough due to moving to another city. Until then I will remain doing remote learning in Kingsborough till they reopen campus.

I hope you all had a good experience in college for those who are freshmen’s like myself. I love college makes me feel smart if that makes sense lol, started off ruff due to having to learn everything fast but in time I got the hang of it all and made it through the ruff time. I am pretty sure most of you can relate to my story in this because let’s face it we all experienced this for the first time with this remote learning and zoom meetings. I would love to remain blogging it will work if I have the same class which wont happen šŸ™ due to my career choice I will need multiple classes to achieve the amount of credits needed. I wish everyone the best of luck and thank you for reading my blogs and taking the time out of your busy lives to comment. Take care and god bless us all.

Final slide

So for my final slide I was discussing learning about the Process of Amendments. Being that the amendments are only apart of the constitution if only it it approved with a percentage of voters from the house and senate. I did not know this believe it or not till I read this article, there are so many things that I have learned in this class for American Gov. and Politics. Before it becomes part of the Constitution is has to be approved by the state, The Amendments will then be known as “The Bill of Rights”. How cool is that to learn about it was cool for me. In that time did you know that only 10 amendments was approved by the state ? Well as I mentioned above, reading this textbook has brought many things to light for me to always remember, and pass down to my children and who ever to have a better understanding of the law.

I really do not want this class course to come to an end, I love how my professor teaches, she makes sure that we are fully aware of her assignments and she is always checks in on her students its amazing. I have learned so much things I had no clue of and I enjoyed everything. I loved learning more on the war and how women back in time fought for us women now to have equal rights, and fought so that we can vote. Even to learned more on what is happening in the world now with this pandemic, and police brutally along with voting. This class was a truly amazing and I am thankful for being a student here.

Domestic Policy

Domestic Policy is a subject that is used to describe a major of issues in the government for example personal rights, freedom and legislative. Domestic policy is there to try to control the chaos in the world. Domestic Policy can be divided into parts, example ‘Regulatory Policy’ which maintains orders and controls outlawing behaviors. However, this topic I have just learned about myself, I find this to be helpful and interesting, learning anything new about the government is always helpful in life. Domestic policy come from the Federal, State and Local Government, this is how it’s develop. Public officials made tough policies to stop the outbreak of crimes, including people who are locked away in prison.

Each policy in domestic policy provides different benefits, In which all policy’s help with the reduction of your expenses. The policy covers such a huge part of the nation as in businesses, education, law enforcement, money and taxes. Again reading on this I was clueless at one point not knowing what is domestic policy, now I understand. I hope this can somewhat help my readers understand the meaning to this subject just in case anyone comes up with this particular reading, you guys will already have a better understanding with what I just shared. Remember that Domestic Policy is used to describe many issues in our world, remember there are many different policies that still serve the same purpose.

Webinar Meeting

So today I will be writing about the meeting we had on cultures and black lives matter. Well it was very interesting to learn about the staff members who are also teachers in different campuses. They will discuss something about themselves and where they are from, also their ethnicity. There are so many people who come across these webinars to relate stories or just to speak about anything that is happening. Main subject black lives matter that was also discussed in the meeting today, as well as police officers with their brutal beatings or killings. I love how they talked about serious topics and no one felt offended in fact we was so interested by their wording that we wanted to keep asking questions and wanting their input on it. They provided links to every subject they spoke on, they provided links to the books they were basing some events on as well, which to me is amazing what these staff member’s are doing for us students.

If you missed a meeting like this I hope one day you can join it, it is very helpful to have a better input about this subject about the world in someone else’s eyes. To hear about their life experiences and how they over came their obstacles in life. There were four amazing staff members who also as I mentioned teach other students in their own campus, I’m sure they learned so much from them. They also spoke about deportation on immigrants, which is a common issue that families are encountering. That is a main subject people are fighting for so many immigrants want to be American Citizens. they mentioned that if you are a criminal or did any crime you will be deported, but so many immigrants that were deported did not do any crime, in fact they were sent back to their country to do just not being a U.S Citizen.

POLITICAL PARTICIPATION ASSIGNMENT

I have decided to send an email to Major De Blasio because he is a man who serves the best for his people in this world. Major De Blasio tries his best in helping citizens with housing problems or any issues that we are having. For example my sister had a fall out with her housing the landlord wanted more money every lease for an apartment not worth paying and the apartment also needed repairs, in which that landlord took his time repairing. My sister took actions into her own hands by calling the Major’s office and filing a complaint, the Major then viewed her case which is amazing and decided to step in and get involved with this situation. He made my sister’s life livable and made her landlord responsible to fix all repairs the apartment needed or payments will not be provided. We are citizens who deserve respect and not be taking advantage of because we are not rich.

I chose this for my assignment because for my class course he is very helpful being so that he in fact is an American Politician who is serving as US Major. He helps his citizens in every way possible, he honors the law and the amendments, and serves his position. I learned that not everyone is the same, you have those politicians and others in the field who talk a good talk but wont provide by their words to us citizens. However, Blasio says what he can do to help and follows through with it all. He made us proud of his work and his commitment. I learned that we will get help when needed we just need to email or call the right people and he is one of them. Being so that I want to become part of this law field he gives me all hope to accomplish my goal. I will thank him a million times over because my family have experienced his help when needed and he has never failed to respond , so speaking on experience he is a good man and follows up on his word to help everyone not just some.

What’s your problem? Assignment

Dear, Representative Nancy Pelosi

This letter is to ask for your assistance regarding an issue I would like to address with you regarding citizenship protection against the law. Due to your involvement as a speaker in the United States House of Representatives, I feel that this will be an honor to receive your help in making the problem go away. As you read my letter, I hope you will consider my suggestion in trying to make citizens live a better protected and safe life. The problem I will like to discuss is that not too many people are getting the protection we supposedly have against the law, the fact that cops can do and say whatever they want and get away with it all is frustrating. We have amendments that were created for that main reason to protect us; However, some people are aware of these amendments and some are not. Either way of knowing this information the law still has the power to control us in anything we do or say. We should not be scared to voice our opinion to any officers or judges this is called ā€œFreedom of Speechā€. Let us say anything in voicing ourselves, we will get yelled at to even being cuffed and put in jail, but what happens to people of the law when they choose to do the same, can we tell them to be quite? Can we arrest them? No we can not in fact we can not tell them anything, they always claim that they are the law and they are over us, again with that being said that shows that they over ride their power in the field. Citizens are being treated as if we do not matter, many officers think they have all power and it is not ok, many of them love to take advantage. Let me provide you a prime example to this issue I am addressing. There was a story about a mom who was in the comfort of her home with her daughter, she was just getting out the shower and only was covered in a towel when police officers arrived. The mother then asked the cops to stand outside by her door so she can let them in after getting properly dressed, but of course the officers did not give her the respect to stand outside the however walked right in after being told to wait. Before I continue let me add how they already violated the amendments in which they violated the privacy to her home with having no warrant or any reasonable issue. She was heard saying in this video that was uploaded, ā€œThere is no problem hereā€, now they showed up to a domestic dispute with her and the husband that happened in a different location not her home. The officer was not answering no questions she was asking him but in fact wanted his questions answered and demanded them to be answered. This cop got so upset due to the women not wanting to answer him in she had all right not too, he then let his angry get the best of him and started to handcuff her while just having a towel on. While he is arresting her he is heard saying ā€œ We do not play, if a cop shows up you are not in charge, I do not care if this is your houseā€, this is no respect for us citizens against cops just by his ignorant comment. So, she is handcuffed, and her towel of course falls off, so she is embarrassed because she is naked, she is heard saying ā€œPlease cover me, cover me, cover meā€. This cop had the audacity to have her daughter go and remove the cuffs off her mother, this is the most disgusting and shameful behavior on his part as an officer in the United States. After the removal to the handcuffs he then leaves her apartment after causing such embarrassment as if he did nothing wrong but yet says ā€œ I will find myself a lawyerā€, with just saying those words should show you that some officers over power themselves even with they are wrong. This woman who was violated is now pursuing a lawsuit and she has every right to. (Inside Edition, July 20, 2015)

These are issues we must deal with when officers think that they can enter our premises even after being told not to. This must change for the better we need to feel protected in the privacy of our homes, that should have never happened, and I am for certain it will not be the last if things do not change. All the riots and protesting are against things like this, we are standing up to what is right and what is wrong. The article I was explaining above you can find the story in the following sources this is where I received my information. The sources are Inside Edition (July 20, 2015), NY Daily News (July 16,2015)

CBS News (July 17, 2015), YouTube (July 17, 2015), TomoNews (July 17, 2015),

ABC News (March 17, 2016), DailyDot.com (February 29, 2020), The Daily Motion (July 17, 2015) and

Thefreethoughtproject.com (July 15, 2015). There are many sites where you can easily find this article it went worldwide because this has been going on for way too long and we are tired of it and want change. I can provide you my thoughts in how to make things change for the better, I would have each officer and every law worker in the field to re study the amendments that way they can fully understand we have control to our own lives. They will need punishment as well if any amendment was violated without reasonable actions or warrants, I believe it is only right due to the fact that if we violate the law we are put in jail or behind a judge for a fine. These cops who do not comply should indeed receive the same treatment, I can grantee that things would change if cops knew they can be punish too if they obey. This suggestion I am implying should be made into a law, this should be brought up to the committee, then having the congress debate it and vote on it, then have a presidential approval so this matter can become the law, that way cops can also be aware that they can not over power their authority. I believe with your voice in congress people that have the upper power to create this law will hear your words and want to make a difference. This is not about wanting to bash our officers this is only about wanting equal rights if there is any wrong on their end as well as ours.

                                                                                                                     Thank you for your timeā€¦.

                                                                                                       Sincerely, Sonia Cruz.

I will grade my self 20 points because I researched all my information properly and shared evidence containing my problem with using in-text citations, correct dates, times and sites. I made my writing clear to who I was addressing and adding her contact information as well. In my letter I shared some of my sources to show that this story was in fact a real-life event, with also providing a solution to how this can end. So, I provided my evidence, I explained my problem and proposed a solution and explained the path that needs to be taken. My grammar is spot on or just about correct with clear and understanding writing. My letter supports a good argument with very good information.

CHECK IN POST…

My progress so far has been better than I anticipated. I say this because I honestly believed I was not going to be as focus or I will have missing assignments in which I do not. If you been reading my blogs I had mention that I have two kids who are fully remote, that is the only reason why I thought on my end I would have slacked off with my schooling. However, this has made me stronger to push through and I am doing excellent. Not one assignment is missing, Midterms that were given are completed, and I have a good grade on my exams. My plans before was to do exactly what I am doing now, succeeding in school. The class syllabus is the main source that helps students know and understand what assignments is due and when are the midterms. To even having zoom meetings with professors is so much helpful as well, again my plans was to do everything that is needed it may be difficult with assignments due in every class almost at the same time frame but I got this. College to me is not suppose to be easy this is a challenge to accomplish especially with this pandemic and having full remote learning.

As I mentioned the syllabus is working very well for me the only issue I have is almost all assignments are due around the same time. I understand due to the ending of this semester is in December, so that gives more of a understanding to why everything is due so close in time. what I do not like is emailing professors my assignments, some wont answer stating they received it so that can be so frustrating, some professors either cancel classes almost all the time or just wont put up your grades so we can be aware that we in fact submitted our work. I do believe changing how we submit assignments will be helpful, like for example I have two classes where one is submitting all assignments on our website which is so helpful and easy, and the other class we submit our work through blackboard again so easy, giving us access to view our work and everything else that was submitted. I do think most professors should look into doing it this way it makes things easier for us all, because lets be real emailing will get overwhelming not only for us but for teachers as well. Having so many emails from students will get confusing as to who submitted and who has not so yes I do want that to change to better this remote learning situation, so in making this a successful completion things should change just a little only in not emailing work but to submit through blackboard or websites there is just so many students to receive every email and grade it. I say this because I have classes that work is emailed but I have not been graded or acknowledge on, this is what I want changed it can help us all so much.

MIDTERM….

Starting my very first Midterm for American Government and Politics, I will tell you it I was nervous taking this exam even with having the chance to go back to the textbook. Midterms are scary due to not wanting a failing grade, this exam for this course lets the students retake it as many times as possible if needed. Now I had calculated my grade being that it is graded by points and scored a 72 percent. Yes this grade is good but not great I know I can do better, just scared to re take the exam and score lower than the first. This exam was based on everything we read during this course especially on the legislative branch. I will consider redoing my exam and scored higher without having doubt. Besides the exam I have learned so much I am so thankful for having an amazing professor.

The professor I have teaches her students with such passion, you can tell she loves what she teaches. I love this class so having assignments and exams will be easy to complete only because she explains what is needed to be done. The Legislative Branch tells you how a bill is made and the process it goes through. Once you read the required chapters everything else will come easy. To know the basics it is a much better way to fully understand the concepts to it all. So yes I will consider redoing my exam and show myself that I can score higher, not an easy task but it is very possible.

LEGASLATIVE BRANCH

This topic I will be doing a presentation on in a few days for my course in American Government and Politics, so much information to be shared and learned about. The Legislative Branch is part of congress, basically major parts of the law. There are different committees within the branch that have the power to move the bill through committee process. The Legislation must be drafted by someone who is not a member of the congress. However, being the fact that itā€™s involvement is with the congress. Before reaching the house floor it must go through the house of committee on rules. The committee establishes the rules the bill go through the floor, where it is debated and amendments can be added.

I honestly left high school years ago so to re learn this stuff suits me very well. I learned the fact that Legislative plays a huge role in congress and the senate, it plays a huge role in law period. The house hold votes on the bill of Legislation, after that it gets moved out of the house and to the senate. The fact that one simple bill gets moved to all different locations makes it interesting and I love reading and learning more about this subject. Not even the President can have much say in any bill he may have an opinion but it boils down to everyone else especially the congress and the senate, that has the upper power of the final vote in any bill. Once is in the senate the bill is placed in the calendar so it can be debated. Both the house and senate can and often do amend bills, the bills that pass out of each chamber often looks different.
